When I purchased my ‘71 911T 2.2, like most fifty year old Porsches it had been through several previous owners. Unsurprisingly, each owner had added their own personal touches, but as a stickler for historical accuracy in all things automotive, this drove me nuts. My particular pain point here was the anachronistic flag mirrors—even a Porsche newbie knows those mirrors weren’t introduced until 1973. A week later, my OEM Talbots were installed, and the flag mirrors ended up in my box of random Porsche parts. Every Porsche collector will know exactly what box I’m talking about; there’s something about actually discarding a Porsche part that’s just incomprehensible to us. Now those flag mirrors have a proper home, gold plated and mounted on marble. If Porsche thought they were good enough for the holy grail that is the Carrera RS, then they’re good enough for my night stand.
